We are not doomsday type people but if something major does happen in these uncertain turbulent times we are a self sustaing household for a LONG time.
Permalink Reply by Renewable Ray on July 2, 2012 at 2:37pm I like that term, Preppers, that's us. Not doomsdayers by any means. And water wells, illegal around here. City of Tucson, like a lot of cities, even buying up property [pronounced water rights] outside the city limits making it tough for folks to drill outside the city as well.
Permalink Reply by Gregory Blount on July 2, 2012 at 3:01pm That's exactly what started us down that "solar road". A couple of jenny's, some solar panels, big garden to put up good food... you get the picture. I'm all for a "preppers" group.
I store water by rinsing out 2 liter carbonated water bottles and using those. (I stopped drinking soda 5+ years ago). I do some other things as well. Some solar is just another part of that. besides the fact that it's interesting and fun.
I think a few people on the east coast are learning that being prepared isn't such a bad thing. Most assume the government will do everything for them. Down't always work out that way. See "Katrina"...
It's too bad that cable TV started the prepper show. It seems like their job is to make people are ready for a disaster as weirdo's. It's also odd that in one government area (DHS) people who prep are practically considered terrorists. On the other hand FEMA tell us to do just that.
As an aside, I do the emergency preparedness for the medical company I work for...
Permalink Reply by Rebecca on July 1, 2012 at 6:08pm I just received notice that my DMSolar panel has already shipped. It will arrive on July 2nd (whoa, that is fast).
Permalink Reply by Denise McCracken on July 1, 2012 at 6:20pm They're still available. I just ordered one, hoped to get more than that, but the money fairy hasn't been around in a while. Be sure you check the super saver option, because it may not be the default choice.
Uh Oh. I wonder if that's where I screwed up. I got charged $40 for shipping and handling...
Permalink Reply by Ron P. on July 2, 2012 at 11:14am Dave,
if it hasnt shipped yet try and go into the sale and change to Super Saver option. Its a shot. That sucks. I have issue with AMAZON for this, an item that automatically qualifies for Super Saver Shipping (over $25) should automatically have it selected. Then, if you want something else you can change it. I bet a fortune is made over this by Amazon. I would also contact customer care, play dumb as to why your being charged. You may get a partial or full refund of shipping. After all, if you pay for Standard Shipping, they are going to send it the same way for Super Saver, not costing them a cent more. (thats a good argument by the way.)
Keep us posted.
Permalink Reply by John J. on July 2, 2012 at 12:24pm I ordered my panel Fri. and just got the shipping notice Mon. So tomorrow I will check the tracking #. I selected the 3-5 day on purpose to try and get it before this weekend. Extra 20$, as of now it gives me an estimate that looks like super saver time. If that's the case then I'll be contacting them. However with Amazon shipping I've learned not to jump the gun.
Permalink Reply by John J. on July 3, 2012 at 9:47am Well it would seem the $ I spent on shipping was unessesary since they are not counting the order day or the following business day. So this weekend is out. Not a huge deal and I can't blame ups but I seem to remember an indication of Thurs. before I checked out. Chatted with Amazon -
You're right. I did the chat thing with Amazon and she said that the free super saver had to be checked. It defaults to the pay shipping. The lady on the other end of the chat was really nice and even though the order had entered the shipping phase she is crediting my card back all the shipping and handling charges.
Love Amazon for that.
